How do I care for fabric awnings?
The life and good looks of your awnings depend a great deal on the way you use them and how you care for them. Even the most durable materials require a certain amount of care, and fabric awnings are no exception. With only a minimum amount of attention, your awnings will remain bright and serviceable.
Awning fabrics should be cleaned regularly before substances such as dirt, roof particles, etc. are allowed to accumulate on and become embedded in the fabric. Brush any loose dirt off the awning; hose down and clean with a mild natural soap in lukewarm water. Rinse thoroughly to remove soap.
Do Not Use Detergents!
Awning frames are made of either galvanized steel or aluminum and will last a lifetime! Regular maintenance on a frame requires an annual inspection of fasteners, connections and metal condition. Any loose fasteners or connections should be tightened and any rust should be removed.
What are your awning frames made out of?
Our awning frames are made of either galvanized steel or aluminum. They are among the strongest awning frames available and will last a lifetime with regular inspections.
How does galvanizing steel protect from corrosion?
Metal breaks down when oxygen attacks the surface and results in a process called corrosion. Rust is a type of corrosion that is experienced by iron. A body of metal begins to flake away when oxygen creates iron oxide. Certain metals don’t rust such as aluminum and stainless steel. These metals form an oxide layer on the surface that resists corrosion. Zinc bonds well to steel and also oxidizes without rusting. So, to give steel a coating that lasts longer than paint, you cover it with a layer of zinc. This coating of zinc protects steel, resulting in awning frames that can last a lifetime and will look good while doing it.
Are your installers employees of the company and are they insured?
Yes, we are insured. At Quayle and Company, we do NOT use subcontractors. When you schedule an awning installation, everyone you meet will be from Quayle and Company.
How long do fabric awnings last?
With proper cleaning and maintenance, your fabric awnings can last a very long time. Generally, most fabric awnings last anywhere from 5-15 years depending on how you clean and maintain them. However, our galvanized steel and aluminum awning frames will last a lifetime!
Does the fabric color I choose affect how hot it will be underneath the awning?
The factor that will play the biggest role in how hot it is underneath your awning will be the type of fabric that you choose. Some of our fabrics have a dark color on the outside and a lighter color underneath, which can have a pleasing shading effect. Other fabrics that are of a darker color, might increase the temperature underneath. This may play a slight role in the overall temperature, but once again, the type of fabric will have the biggest impact on the temperature underneath your awning.
Why should I get an awning for my business?
Adding an awning to your business property can be very beneficial. An awning allows you to prominently display your logo and stand out from the surrounding businesses. Our commercial awnings are vibrant and come with professional graphics and lettering. We can put any commercial logo onto the awning of your choice. By offering shade and protection from unpredictable weather, you will attract more patrons. Stand out from the rest and attract customers with a customized, vibrant, unique awning.
I’m looking to add a retractable awning to my home, how will it be mounted?
When our crew at Quayle and Company visits your home, we will be able to determine the best way to mount your new awning. Usually, wall mounts, roof mounts, and under-overhang mounts are used for awning installations. Customer satisfaction is our top priority, so we will make sure your new awning meets and exceeds your expectations.
